Hi, is it possible to upload and existing font file and then edit it in FontArk?

Hi, No it isn’t possible for now.
Font files are made only with outlines, FontArk’s engine is based on Skeletons and the connection of it to the SmartXs. In order to benefit of the character connectivity and advance Outline control you have to create the Skeleton directly with FontArk tools, luckily, creating a new Skeleton (or modifying and existing template) is quite easy and fast.

If you’d like to use an existing font as reference while creating a skeleton you can make the existing font show up as Watermark in the background of each character work area with the Watermark feature. Any web-font or locally installed fonts (those installed on your computer) can be easily set as Watermark.

Here’s how to do it: http://fontark.net/farkwp/aprils-upgrade/
At about 2:50 in the video on this link you can see how to apply a watermark, and there are also written instruction.

Saving used to take a matter of seconds. Now, it has been “saving” for about a half hour and still not done. Is there anything you can do from your end to alleviate this problem, or is it at my end? I don’t seem to have problems with saving in other applications. I appreciate any help you can give.

Occasionally since FontArk is still in Beta it will do things like that. Then, you just have to either a) wait it out or b) close out the tab. Your work will be lost but you can re-do what you did. It is also advised to save as often as possible, though the tool is fairly stable. It may be on your end as well… sometimes processors can be slow, or the FontArk server could be running slow.
