Why so much space above each line?

I am only able to use my font with text boxes because otherwise my worksheets would look like this:

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

And so on, which wastes a ton of paper. All my letters fill all of the space between 0 and 800, so I am unsure what else to do to get rid of this extra space. Also, there is apparently a random dot inside the j and i circles. I have not been brave enough to try the outline feature yet, I have instead been making outlined letters by turning font color to white and font outline color to black in microsoft word. And whenever I do this there is a random dot in the middle of the dots over j and i. This is not a huge deal to me, but the extra space above each line of text is making things very frustrating and difficult (not the user friendly font I was hoping for at all).
